Lead Visual/Product Designer

A health and wellness wearables startup in Redwood City, CA is hiring an experienced Visual/UX Product Designer. You’ll join a small team of designers, owning the visual deliverables but still working full stack design – so interaction skills should be sharp. The ideal candidate is familiar designing cross platform (the application is compatible with web and mobile) and also experience designing effective consumer facing applications. In addition, this designer should be experienced and strong with data visualization. The application collects real time data analytics and this designer needs to be strong creating the needed charts and graphs to present the data to the users. The product is used by athletes – primarily professional athletes, college athletes and Olympians who are looking to improve their fitness training.

Areas of focus for you will be developing color schemes, style languages, design systems, and working with Sketch to deliver pixel perfect files to the engineers. Ideally you’re strong brainstorming and coming up with new ideas and approach to designing the most effective interface for the users. Any prototypes and/or coding experience with JavaScript, HTML5 and/or CSS3 will be a huge plus!

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of design experience
  • Excellent visual design knowledge and skills: color schemes, style guides, branding, logos, layout, overall heuristics
  • Interaction skills: wireframes, mockups, and prototyping experience
  • Data visualization skills
  • A portfolio that cleanly outlines your design approach, strategy and style – ideally showcasing your visual, interaction, and data visualization capabilities  
  • Familiar working with different design tools, like Sketch
  • Capable designing applications compatible with web and mobile
  • Ability to work full stack design
  • Effective in group collaboration – working directly with engineers, designers, and product managers
  • Degree in HCI, HF, or something relevant

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience working in the wearables industry
  • Previous experience working in the health & wellness and/or fitness industry
  • Prototyping experience and/or coding capabilities in JavaScript, HTML, and/or CSS
  • Masters in a design discipline
